You've probably heard of dynamic advertising and pre-mid and post rolls: the ability to place ads in your podcast episodes. You can do this with Springcast too! With us, it's called 'Campaigns' and we'll explain how it works.
Good to know: You can add campaigns if you have an Advanced or Growth subscription.
Pre- mid- and post audio
You can include three ads in your episode. You will hear the ads in three different places: pre, mid and post.
Pre audio: Audio added at the beginning of episodes.
Mid audio: Audio that can be placed in episodes. You can set this position in the settings of an episode.
Post audio: Audio added at the end of episodes.
Creating a campaign and adding ads
You can create a campaign at show level. You do this by clicking 'Campaigns' in the dashboard.
If you haven't added ads yet, you can't fill the campaign yet. You add ads by clicking on the 'Ad' tab.
Adding Ads
Click 'Add Ad', add a title and description and upload an audio file. Add each ad separately.
Filling the campaign with ads
Once you have added all desired ads, you choose which ads belong to the created campaign.
You choose one ad per position (in the campaign and therefore ultimately for the delivery). Note: you don't have to fill in everything, you can also work with just a post-roll, for example. Then press save.
Linking episodes to a campaign
Now it's time to link one or more episodes to the campaign. You do this by going to 'Episodes' in the dashboard and scrolling until you see the artwork of your episode. Below that, you will see 'Choose campaign'.
1. Select the campaign
2. Select the mid-roll location by dragging in the blue bar. If you don't select anything, the mid-roll will be placed in the middle of the episode, based on the originally uploaded audio. If you have also added a pre- and post-roll ad to the campaign, these will be heard at the beginning and end of your episode.
3. Click 'Play' and 'Pause' to search or listen for the right moment when you want to place the mid-roll
4. Save the mid-roll and campaign
New audio file
Now a new audio file is generated for your episode. This is the audio file that will be heard by your listeners. The original file is still available only to you.
Don't forget to click 'Publish' to apply the campaign to your delivery.
Is the campaign not quite set up to your liking after all? Then you can always change the campaign and the location of the mid-roll position. Just make sure you always save the settings and episode properly. If you change the ads in a campaign, all audio files linked to that campaign will be recreated. Depending on how many episodes this is, this may take a while.
Are you working in an episode where you already worked Call-to-Actions, Chapters and Transcription? These settings do not 'shift' with you after you add a campaign to an episode. For example, if you have a CTA set to 01:00:00, and you now add a campaign to it with a 5-second pre-roll, the CTA will remain set to 01:00:00 and will not change to 01:00:05. So after adding a campaign, make sure you check if Call-to-Actions, Chapters and times of transcripts are correct. If desired, you can run the entire episode (including ads) through Audio Polish again.
